TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced Thursday (Nov. 21) that the government will learn from recent events and establish systems to address similar incidents. This statement follows public outrage over a Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) official's suicide, with criticism directed at the perceived leniency of the administrative investigation report.
Cho instructed all ministry heads to set an example by eradicating bullying behavior, demanding an investigation into media-reported cases within a week. He emphasized three directives: leaders should treat others as they wish to be treated, thoroughly investigate and prevent bullying incidents, and strengthen mechanisms to protect agency personnel.
Cho reiterated the need for ministries to review and implement effective workplace bullying prevention measures. He reminded the government to learn more, improve, and establish comprehensive systems to handle similar situations. Cho on Wednesday publicly apologized and urged the MOL to conduct a thorough investigation, referring the case to prosecutors to seek justice for the family.
Cho also called for ministries to promptly address public opinion, confront societal concerns, and implement policies in a supportive environment. As the investigation unfolds, the government's response may set a precedent for handling workplace bullying and related challenges.
