TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Authorities deported a 43-year-old American man from Taiwan on Friday (Nov. 8), convicted of lewd acts with a minor in the U.S. Officials apprehended him in Taipei a day earlier after he had been hiding in the country for over a month. According to Taiwanese officials, he entered Taiwan in early October.

During his stay, the man traveled and worked part-time as a cleaner to support himself, booking accommodations through Airbnb near Songshan Sanmin Road (松山三民路) in Taipei. The National Immigration Agency (NIA, 移民署) formed a task force that tracked him down on Thursday afternoon in the same area.

Chiang Mou-yuan (江謀源), deputy captain of the NIA's Taoyuan City Service Center (桃園市專勤隊), stated that the task force immediately conducted inquiries to confirm his intentions in Taiwan and whether he engaged in any unlawful activities. The NIA explained that immigration officials will handle his deportation according to Article 18, Paragraph 1 of the "Immigration Act" (入出國及移民法), and they plan to enhance foreign population management to ensure public safety.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the man was convicted of sexual delinquency of a minor in 2001 and public indecency in 2010. The swift action by Taiwan's immigration officials underscores Taiwan's commitment to maintaining security and addressing illegal residency issues. This case highlights the importance of international cooperation in law enforcement and immigration control.
