TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Allegations of sexual harassment have surfaced against a Taichung City government official. Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) announced on Tuesday (Nov. 5) the immediate suspension of the accused official and declared zero tolerance for sexual harassment.
Chang Ying-tang (張應當), commissioner of the Public Transportation and Rapid Transit System Office of Taichung City (台中公共運輸與捷運工程處), allegedly engaged in inappropriate behavior toward female subordinates, including hand-holding, arm-touching, and hugging. At least five women have reported these incidents, raising serious concerns within the office.
Speaking before a municipal meeting earlier that day, Mayor Lu stressed that the investigation will be fair but firm, with no leniency if the allegations prove true. She highlighted her commitment to gender equality, noting her unique position as the only female mayor among Taiwan's six municipalities.
Transportation Bureau Director Yeh Chao-fu (葉昭甫) confirmed that Chang has taken leave, and the city has launched an investigation. Yeh assured that if the allegations are substantiated, the city government will take serious measures.
