TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯) announced Monday (Nov. 4) his dual role as a coach at National Taiwan University of Sport (台體大) and a future competitor in the 2026 Asian Games. This decision came after his disappointing experience at the Paris Olympics, where he failed to advance beyond the quarterfinals. Yang aims to regain his confidence in future competitions.
The 27-year-old plans to attend an international training camp in Tokyo to familiarize himself with new athletes and refine his techniques. This will help him prepare for international competitions before the 2026 Asian Games. Yang believes that changing environments aid his mental clarity.
Yang also stated that he draws inspiration from his students' strengths. He emphasizes a relaxed approach to judo to reconnect with his passion. In August, Yang became a coach at his alma mater, receiving support from the school's sports science center. This backing includes a dedicated sports science support team to assist in his preparation for the 2026 Asian Games.
Yang's victory at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou marked a historic achievement for Chinese Taipei (中華代表團), which secured its 100th gold medal.
