TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Mainland Affairs Council (陸委會) minister announced on Friday (Nov. 1) that singer Andy Lau (劉德華) has received approval to hold a concert in Taiwan after verifying that he made no statements harmful to the country.
Minister Chiu Chui-cheng (邱垂正) emphasized Taiwan's dedication to freedom and democracy, stating that Taiwan welcomes artists from China, Hong Kong, and Macau who do not hold harmful views towards the country.
The minister claimed that respect and inclusivity are essential to ensuring freedom of speech and fostering a more united and compassionate Taiwan.
The concert, initially scheduled for Thursday at the Taipei Arena (台北小巨蛋), faced rescheduling due to Typhoon Kong-rey.
Lau's team initially planned to proceed with the performance but postponed it following coordination with the Taipei City Government.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) had urged the city government to reschedule or cancel the event, citing public safety concerns and questioning Lau's political stance.
