TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng (張善政) announced on Monday that authorities will review the suspect's mental condition and determine if enhanced medical intervention is necessary. The suspect, an 18-year-old man with a history of mental illness, abducted a young girl in Taoyuan (桃園) on Sunday morning. Mayor Chang stated that the Department of Social Welfare (社會局) would provide psychological counseling to the victim.
The investigation is ongoing, with prosecutors leading the case. Mayor Chang assured that the city government would identify areas needing improvement. Meanwhile, Councilor Peng Chun-hao (彭俊豪) called for more frequent visits to individuals registered with mental illnesses. During the abduction, the girl cried for help for 27 seconds as several vehicles passed without assisting. A passerby eventually discovered the incident and reported it.
