TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷) assured on Sunday (Oct. 27) that Taiwan-Japan relations will remain stable despite significant political changes in Japan. Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (自民黨), hit by a political donation scandal, lost its parliamentary majority along with its coalition partner, the Clean Government Party (公明黨).
Chen emphasized that the foundation of Taiwan-Japan relations transcends individual political parties, with major Japanese parties agreeing on Taiwan policy. He noted that the fundamental aspects of Taiwan-Japan relations will remain unaffected by political shifts. Chen highlighted the robust cooperation between Taiwan and Japan in democratic values and economic security, particularly in the semiconductor supply chain and technological innovation.
Looking ahead, Chen urged Taiwan to continue strengthening trilateral cooperation with the U.S. and Japan in regional security to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.
