TAIPEI (TVBS News) — National Chengchi University (NCCU, 政大) senior leadership met with RAND Corporation executives on Thursday (Oct. 23) to explore the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on national security.

The discussions focused on emerging technologies, defense, and diplomatic challenges. Both institutions expressed a desire to strengthen academic cooperation, particularly in technology policy research.

 

Leading the delegation, Jason Matheny, president of RAND Corporation, praised Taiwan's contributions to international security and expressed enthusiasm for future collaboration. He highlighted the significance of Taiwan-U.S. academic cooperation.

Meanwhile, NCCU President Li Tsai-yen (李蔡彥) emphasized the unprecedented challenges posed by the rapid evolution of technology in defense and diplomatic policies. He highlighted AI, cybersecurity, and information warfare as the greatest risks.

"NCCU aims to be a model institution in Taiwan and Asia for integrating humanities with technological research," Li stated. He noted collaborations with tech giants like Meta and AMD, and ongoing discussions with OpenAI and Bloomberg.
 

The RAND Corporation, known for its objective, bipartisan research, has significantly influenced U.S. policy decisions across various domains. This meeting marks a significant step in increasing Taiwan-U.S. academic cooperation.
