TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Defense Minister Wellington Koo (顧立雄) on Thursday (Oct. 17) announced plans to enhance the military's response measures and focus on improving the "magnetic signature management" exercises.
This decision comes after IFeng.Com (鳳凰新聞), a Chinese media outlet, revealed the deployment locations of Taiwan's "Hsiung Feng" mobile missile launch vehicles, including specific addresses and coordinates in Tamsui and Hualien.
The situation is deemed even more dire as the People's Liberation Army (PLA, 解放軍) recently launched the "Joint Sword-2024B" military exercise on Monday. The drill involved 125 military aircraft and lasted only 13 hours, but it drew significant international attention.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) raised concerns that Chinese social media users identified the geographical locations of Taiwan's missile launch vehicles using public information, potentially exposing Taiwan's strategic deployment in response to the PLA exercises.
Koo acknowledged the PLA might know the locations of Taiwan's fixed military positions but emphasized that "the positions of mobile tactics must remain undetected by the PLA."
Navy Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Chiu Chun-Jung (邱俊榮) assured that the military's mobile radar and missile vehicle units had established mobile routes and tactical positions.
He confirmed the ongoing efforts to strengthen signature management exercises, aiming to safeguard Taiwan's strategic maneuvers in the face of increasing scrutiny.
