TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Centers for Disease Control (CDC, 疾管署) on Thursday (Oct. 17) announced Miaoli County's first local dengue fever case this year, involving a man in his 30s from Zhunan Township (竹南鎮). The patient began experiencing symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, back pain, diarrhea, and rash on Oct. 7, later confirmed through testing.
Health officials reported that the man had no recent travel history abroad or visits to domestic risk areas during the incubation period. They identified his primary locations as his residence and workplace, classifying it as a local case while investigating the infection source.
Authorities have implemented control measures and health education within a 100-meter radius of the patient's residence in Zhunan Township.
Meanwhile, the Miaoli County Public Health Bureau (苗栗縣衛生局) has established a community screening station in Zhunan Township. This initiative aims to proactively identify hidden cases and prevent the outbreak from spreading further.
During his incubation period, the patient also visited Changhua County and Hsinchu City, prompting local health units to initiate related prevention activities.
