TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Finance Minister Chuang Tsui-yun (莊翠雲) announced on Wednesday (Oct. 16) the recovery of interest subsidies from over 300 "New Housing Loan Program for Young Homebuyers" (新青安貸款) violators.
The government initiated this policy to ease housing burdens, but issues like subleasing have emerged, sparking controversy. By June 2024, public banks identified 1,575 non-compliant cases, representing 2.4% of the 65,224 total loans.
Chuang emphasized the banks' commitment to reclaiming subsidies and modifying loan conditions, with over 300 cases already addressed.
A public bank official revealed plans to increase loan interest rates from 1.775% under the program to at least 2.185%, potentially reaching the previous rate of 2.275%.
The official also noted changes in the grace period, reducing it from five years to the standard three years for home loans. The loan term will be adjusted based on the borrower's age, decreasing from 40 to 30 or 20 years.
