TAIPEI (TVBS News) — An Official of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會) warned on Tuesday (Oct. 15) that China's refusal to recognize the Republic of China (ROC, 中華民國) could affect cross-strait exchanges and project reviews.
The remarks came as China concluded its "Joint Sword-2024B" (聯合利劍-2024B) military exercise earlier the same day. MAC Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑) emphasized that maintaining the status quo between the two sides equates to preserving the ROC's continued existence and development.
He stated that China aims to deny the recognition of ROC and its continued existence. Liang described the cross-strait status quo as akin to a sumo wrestling match, where balance is maintained only if both sides exert equal force.
The deputy minister highlighted that China's provocative actions could impact tourist groups and travel alert assessments. He stressed that cross-strait exchanges must be based on peace to be meaningful and secure.
