TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) reported on Friday (Oct. 4) that Taiwan saw 543 workplace sexual harassment complaints in the first half of 2024.
Of these, 333 cases were confirmed, and 45 offenders faced dismissal. The implementation of the new Act of Gender Equality in Employment (性別平等工作法) on March 8 has introduced additional resources to support victims.
A MOL official, Huang Wei-Chen (黃維琛), revealed that public institutions received 134 complaints, while non-public sectors received 409.
Employers often issued warnings and enhanced training for offenders, with dismissal being the most severe action taken in 45 cases this year.
Huang noted that most complainants were women aged 25 to 44.
The Ministry has compiled resources available from local governments to aid victims, including consultation, medical services, psychological counseling, and legal assistance.
Huang urged employers and employees to maintain clear interpersonal boundaries in the workplace. He emphasized that inappropriate touching or comments could constitute sexual harassment.
