TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Cheng I-Ching (鄭怡靜), Taiwan's top table tennis player, advanced to the semifinals in women's doubles and the quarterfinals in women's singles at the WTT China Smash (WTT中國大滿貫) on Thursday (Oct. 3).
Cheng, ranked 10th globally, overcame a challenging match in the women's singles, defeating China's Wang Xiao-tong (王曉彤), ranked 96th, with a 3-1 comeback victory.
She will face China's Fan Siqi (范思琦) in a highly anticipated quarterfinal match on Friday.
Cheng has displayed formidable form in the WTT China Smash, sweeping through the first two rounds of the singles event without dropping a set.
Her performance in the doubles event, alongside partner Li Yu-jhun (李昱諄), saw them defeat the young Chinese duo of Qin Yuxuan (覃予萱) and Zong Geman (縱歌曼) to secure a spot in the semifinals.
In the doubles semifinals, Cheng and Li will compete against China's Wang Yidi (王藝迪) and Sun Yingsha (孫穎莎) for a place in the finals.
