TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Authorities detained two Vietnamese migrant workers after a car accident on Sunday (Sept. 29). The Qingshui Precinct Taichung City Police Department (台中市政府警察局清水分局) responded to the incident and found both individuals had overstayed their visas.
Police identified the driver, a 34-year-old man surnamed Phi (斐), and his 20-year-old passenger surnamed Ruan (阮). Officers administered a breathalyzer test to Phi, which revealed an illegal blood alcohol level. They transferred him to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office (台中地方檢察署) for further investigation.
Ruan attempted to flee during the incident, but officers quickly apprehended him. Police stated they would send both men to the National Immigration Agency's Central Taiwan Administration Corps (移民署中區事務大隊) for detention regarding their visa violations.
The Qingshui Precinct will compile relevant data on the traffic accident and forward it to the Traffic Police Corps (交通警察大隊) for analysis.
