CHANGHUA (TVBS News) — A nearly 2-meter-long Burmese python caught by the Changhua County Fire Bureau (彰化縣消防局) is looking for its owner. If no one claims the snake within seven days, it will be opened for adoption to adults on Sept. 30 at 10 a.m, according to a notice posted on Monday (Sept. 23).
Animal Disease Control Center of Changhua County (彰化縣動物防疫所) posted a notice earlier that day, stating that the Burmese python was caught by the Pithou Fire Brigade (埤頭分隊) of the county's fire bureau.
The notice said that if more than one person applies to adopt the python, the center will hold a lottery to decide who gets the adoption rights.
The fire department responded to a call on Sept. 17 about a large snake at a self-service laundry on Douyuan Road (斗苑路) in Pithou Township. Firefighters used snake tongs and gloves to capture the python and placed it in a large cage before sending it to the Department of Agriculture of Changhua County Government (彰化縣府農業處).
An official noted that Burmese pythons are generally docile and are kept as pets. The captured python measures 1.7 meters and weighs about 11 kilograms. Officials believe it likely wandered off rather than being abandoned by its owner.
