TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Presidential Office will convene the inaugural meeting of the "Whole-of-Society Defense Resilience Committee" (全社會防衛韌性委員會) on Thursday (Sept. 26).

This meeting will address five key areas: civil force training and utilization, strategic material inventory and distribution, energy and critical infrastructure maintenance, social welfare and medical preparedness, and cybersecurity for communications, transport, and finance.

The committee, comprising representatives from various sectors including government, academia, and industry, aims to bolster Taiwan's defense resilience. Key government officials, such as Defense Minister Wellington Koo (顧立雄), Economic Affairs Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝), and Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱), will participate in the discussions.

The initiative on civil force training and utilization seeks to enhance the operational capacity of civil defense personnel. This includes disaster relief teams, active and retired substitute service members, and volunteer police and firefighters. The strategic material inventory and distribution plan will focus on ensuring the availability of essential goods and food while also establishing a strategic storage model.

Energy and critical infrastructure maintenance will aim to protect vital infrastructure and maintain the supply of electricity and necessary energy resources. The social welfare and medical preparedness segment will discuss ways to provide effective public safety facilities and strengthen medical resilience.

The cybersecurity segment will ensure the resilience of key communication channels, transport, and financial networks and build trusted communication platforms. As the committee prepares for its first meeting, Taiwan looks to enhance its overall defense capabilities through comprehensive planning and collaboration.
