TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's Hydraulic Engineering Office (HEO, 台北市水利處) on Monday (Sept. 23) announced a flood risk in some low-lying areas, advising residents to avoid restricted zones still closed for safety.
The announcement follows the impact of a tropical depression and a low-pressure system causing heavy downpours across Taiwan.
On Sunday, Taipei and New Taipei City authorities restricted access to some evacuation gates and levee roads, allowing only exits to mitigate flood risks.
The HEO reported that the reduced impact of the low-pressure system on northern Taiwan allowed the gradual reopening of evacuation gates along Jingmei River (景美溪) and Keelung River (基隆河) starting at 6 a.m. Monday.
The office warned that some low-water banks and pedestrian and bicycle paths still have fallen trees, silt, and leaves. Residents should exercise caution when entering riverside parks.
