HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Two Vietnamese migrant workers drowned Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 17) at Xinfeng Beach (新豐海水浴場) in Hsinchu County. One of the men, 35, did not survive despite resuscitation efforts.
Medical personnel transported the other man, 33, to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Both men, part of a group of Vietnamese migrant workers, had gone to the beach for recreation when the tragedy occurred.
The Potou Fishing Port Inspection Office (坡頭安檢所) dispatched rescuers immediately after receiving the report. Investigations revealed that the deceased worker was employed in Shulin District (樹林區), New Taipei City, while the hospitalized worker worked in Xinfeng Township (新豐鄉), Hsinchu County.
The Coast Guard Administration (CGA, 海巡署) urged the public to call the free "118" hotline for rescue needs along ports or shorelines. The CGA pledged full support in such emergencies.
