TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced on Monday (Sept. 16) that the government will allocate NT$7.3 billion in next year's central government budget to combat fraud.
Premier Cho emphasized the government's responsibility to inform the public about how authorities and private entities collaborate to prevent scams and verify authenticity.
While inspecting Cathay United Bank's (國泰世華商業銀行) counter services for fraud prevention, Cho highlighted the critical role of the financial system in anti-fraud efforts, stating that bank employees can significantly enhance fraud prevention by showing more care towards customers.
He also stressed the need to build an anti-fraud ecosystem, noting that scam tactics continually evolve and surpass ordinary people's expectations. He added that technological measures must complement human efforts in fraud prevention.
Data from the National Police Agency (警政署) revealed that Cathay United Bank intercepted over NT$1.28 billion in fraud at its counters in 2023, leading the financial sector. From January to June this year, the bank successfully thwarted thousands of fraud cases, protecting more than NT$820 million for the public.
