TAIPEI (TVBS News) — For the first time, two Taiwanese films, "Daughter's Daughter" (女兒的女兒) and "Dead Talents Society" (鬼才之道), received awards at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, 多倫多國際影展) on Sunday (Sept. 15).

The 49th TIFF, held from Sept. 5 to 15, concluded with awards presentations, marking a historic moment for Taiwanese cinema.

Sylvia Chang (張艾嘉), the lead actress in "Daughter's Daughter," earned an Honourable Mention in the Platform competition. "Dead Talents Society," a Taiwanese horror comedy film, secured the first runner-up spot in the Midnight Madness audience award category.

TIFF organizers highlighted Chang's contributions to Taiwanese cinema, calling her a "legendary figure" and praising her performance in "Daughter's Daughter" as one of her best. The movie explores mother-daughter relations and an IVF journey.

Chang expressed her gratitude, stating, "This film took six years from conception to completion. Playing the role of the mother led to many discoveries and reflections, which I have compiled into a book titled 'Daughter.'"
