TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — The pilot who survived a Mirage 2000 fighter jet crash, left the hospital on Friday (Sept. 13) after receiving medical treatment.

Captain Hsieh Pei-hsun (謝沛勳) significantly improved his neck and lower back injuries and can move freely. Accompanied by his wife and relatives, Hsieh will continue outpatient follow-up care as recommended by his doctors.

He plans to undergo an aviation medical assessment at the Taoyuan Armed Forces General Hospital Hsinchu Branch (國軍桃園總醫院新竹分院) to pursue his dream of flying again.

Hsieh was conducting a night flight training mission on Sept. 10, when his fighter jet crashed into the sea. Rescuers saved him after he ejected and transported him to Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital (童綜合醫院) for treatment.

The Taichung hospital officials expressed initial concerns about Hsieh inhaling seawater during the crash. However, follow-up X-rays revealed no signs of aspiration pneumonia, and his white blood cell count returned to normal.

President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) visited Hsieh at the hospital on Sept. 11. He conveyed the nation's heartfelt gratitude to Hsieh and all military personnel for their tireless dedication to national defense.
