HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Hsinchu Mackay Memorial Hospital (新竹馬偕醫院) Director Weng Shun-long (翁順隆) defended the children's hospital against profiteering allegations on Thursday (Sept. 12).

Weng emphasized the hospital's mission to save lives rather than generate profit, stating that if there are any beneficiaries, it is the citizens and children.

The Core Pacific Case (京華城) scandal has sparked a broader discussion on the floor area ratio of various buildings in Taiwan, including the Hsinchu Mackay Children's Hospital (新竹馬偕兒童醫院).

The Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office (新竹地檢署) issued a statement on Wednesday confirming no specific legal violations regarding the hospital's floor area ratio. The office has closed the case.

Weng also highlighted that the hospital operates under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. He noted that the land and building would eventually return to the Hsinchu City Government, stating that the city government would be the beneficiary.

Weng hoped these controversies would subside, urging the public and officials to let healthcare return to its professional roots.
