TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Communications Commission (NCC, 國家通訊傳播委員會) announced on Wednesday (Sept. 11) that it has received 13 complaints regarding the media coverage of the Core Pacific case (京華城案).
Complainants allege media reports violated the principle of non-disclosure during the investigation and lacked fact-checking.
Authorities detained Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) for allegedly benefiting the Core Pacific Group (威京集團) on Sept. 5.
Reports claiming the Agency Against Corruption (AAC, 廉政署) discovered a crucial USB drive with the entry "2022/11/1 1500 Sheen Ching-jing" (沈慶京) sparked financial flow suspicions.
Sanlih Entertainment Television (SET, 三立電視) received ten complaints, while Mirror TV (鏡電視) received one.
Complainants questioned whether "1500" referred to a time or an amount of money, arguing that the case remains under investigation and that the media should verify the facts.
NCC spokesperson Huang Wen-je (黃文哲) urged the media to fact-check before reporting, emphasizing the need for self-regulation to uphold press freedom and human rights.
NCC stated it would investigate these complaints and could impose fines ranging from NT$200,000 to NT$2 million under the "Enforcement Rules for the Satellite Broadcasting Act" (衛星廣播電視法).
