TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Economic Affairs of Taiwan J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) announced on Wednesday (Sept. 11) that TSMC (台積電) will maintain its primary development focus in Taiwan despite expanding its operations worldwide.
Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei (魏哲家) emphasized TSMC's global expansion, stating that TSMC is no longer just Taiwan's TSMC but the world's TSMC.
During the R&D 100 Awards (2024全球百大科技研發獎) press conference, Kuo agreed with Wei's vision, acknowledging that engineers might encounter different work cultures abroad but reiterated that TSMC's core remains in Taiwan.
Kuo aims to elevate Taiwan's AI application industry to the top three globally within four years. He stated that the Statute for Industrial Innovation (產業創新條例) has been amended to achieve this, increasing the expenditure cap to NT$1.8 billion.
Moreover, the ministry plans to recruit 25,000 international students annually, projecting 100,000 to join 100,000 locally trained talents over four years, hoping to meet AI industry demands by 2028.
