TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Major Taiwanese telecommunications companies will conduct a disaster prevention alert test at 4 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 11) to enhance public awareness and ensure the effectiveness of the notification system, the companies announced on Tuesday.
Chunghwa Telecom (中華電信), Far EasTone Telecommunications (遠傳電信), and Taiwan Mobile (台灣大哥大) have teamed up to support government policies by regularly performing these alert system tests. The initiative is designed to safeguard public safety without disrupting customer service during the test period.
The test will include outlying islands and feature bilingual messages accompanied by a distinct warning sound and vibration.
The alert messages will be sent through the "Monthly Test Messages" (每月測試用訊息) channel, which is typically disabled by default on most mobile devices to minimize disturbance. However, some users may still experience the special alert sound and vibration. Officials urge recipients not to panic upon receiving the test message.
The telecommunications companies stressed the importance of these tests in maintaining an effective disaster response system. By conducting regular tests, they aim to ensure the public remains well-informed and prepared for emergencies.
