TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) has taken an 11-day leave starting from Monday (Sept. 9), for personal reasons, the city government announced on Tuesday. Taichung Deputy Mayor Huang Kuo-jung (黃國榮) will assume her duties during this period.
Lu, who rarely takes extended leave, last took a month-long break in 2022 for hip surgery, returning to work earlier than planned.
Related reports suggest that she and her husband, Liao Shu-chia (廖述嘉), recently flew to the United States for their daughter's wedding. However, the city government has not confirmed this information, only stating that Lu intended to spend more time with her family.
Deputy Mayor Cheng Chao-hsin (鄭照新) noted that Lu has taken short leaves before and emphasized that this is her regular leave. The city government respects the mayor's personal space and does not question the reasons for her leave, he added.
