TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan-based PCB manufacturer APCB Group (競國) announced on Tuesday (Sept. 10) that it will cease manufacturing activities in Taiwan by the end of December 2024. The company has already started notifying customers about the production shift.
The company's CFO Tsai Cheng-hung (蔡政宏) stated that the company will first halt the production of gold-plated products, which account for 35% of its revenue. The primary reason for this decision is the 30% increase in gold prices compared to last year.
Tsai explained that the profitability of other products will be reviewed, and if deemed unprofitable, production may be moved to the company's China plant.
Regarding the future of employees at the Taiwan plant, Tsai stated that due to declining orders, the company will evaluate the retention of excess manpower but will handle it in accordance with regulations.
APCB Group currently employs 1,807 people in its China plant, 410 in Taiwan, and 1,100 in its Thailand plant, where adjustments are already underway.
Founded in 1981, APCB Group specializes in manufacturing PCB products primarily for consumer electronics. The company went public at the end of 2008.
