TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislator Wu Szu-Yao (吳思瑤) of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) on Monday (Sept. 9) urged the opposition Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) not to exploit the controversial Core Pacific Plaza project (京華城案) to divide Taiwanese society.
The Taipei District Court (台北地方法院) detained TPP Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) on Sept. 5 for alleged profiteering involving the Core Pacific Group. In response, the TPP organized a street protest on Sept. 8, claiming judicial injustice and rallying supporters for Ko.
Wu emphasized that while the DPP respects the TPP's right to hold public events, all parties should act rationally and base their actions on evidence. She urged the TPP to stop interfering in the judiciary.
Looking ahead, Wu hoped the new legislative session would not see the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) and TPP obstruct beneficial legislation due to the Core Pacific project. She believes such actions would hinder national progress.
