TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Thursday (Sept. 5) addressed the controversy surrounding the new housing loan program for young homebuyers (新青安貸款), emphasizing that the stability and safety of the financial market remain the top priority.
Premier Cho thanked the Central Bank (中央銀行) for promptly alerting banks and the public, calling the move correct and necessary. He stated that banks should prioritize loans for first-time homebuyers and assured the public that ongoing loans should not be affected.
Cho urged banks to adjust their loan structures independently and expressed gratitude to the Financial Supervisory Committee (FSC, 金融監督管理委員會) and banks for their responsive measures. He underscored the importance of carefully reviewing loan qualifications and repayment abilities before approving new housing loans.
The premier warned that the Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) must intervene and consider legal measures if developers misuse the policy through internal accounting or proxy methods. He reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the financial system's safety and alleviating public concerns.
