NEW YORK (TVBS News) — Taiwanese tennis player Chan Hao-Ching (詹皓晴) and her Russian partner Veronika Kudermetova fell short in the US Open women's doubles semifinals on Thursday (Sept. 5).
Facing the Ukrainian-Latvian duo of Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko, this year's Australian Open runners-up, Chan and Kudermetova lost in straight sets.
Chan and Kudermetova conceded the first set 1-6 and struggled again in the second set, ultimately losing 2-6.
Despite the defeat, Chan achieved her best-ever performance at the US Open, while Kudermetova reached the semifinals for the first time since 2020.
Before the semifinals, Chan and Kudermetova endured three tough matches in the first four rounds. They staged a remarkable comeback in the quarterfinals to defeat the top-seeded pair, Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand, 2-1.
