TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Finance (MOF, 財政部) on Wednesday (Sept. 4) addressed reports suggesting a misleading link between the New housing loan program for young homebuyers (新青安房貸) and a surge in property transactions. Officials argued that the reported increase of 100,000 transactions should not be directly attributed to the loan program.
The New housing loan program, launched on Aug. 1, 2019, eased several conditions to assist young homebuyers. The program included a 0.5 percentage point interest subsidy until July 31, 2026, raised the maximum loan amount to NT$10 million, extended the loan term to 40 years, and prolonged the grace period to five years.
The MOF emphasized that the primary beneficiaries of the loan program are individuals purchasing homes for personal use, not speculators. The ministry has instructed state-owned banks to intensify inspections and strictly address any speculative misuse of the loans.
From Aug. 2019 to July 2020, the program helped 73,000 households without self-own properties, achieving its policy goal of assisting genuine homebuyers. The MOF underscored the program's positive intent and its significant impact on facilitating homeownership for young families.
