KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — The German software company SAP opened its first global ESG and AI research and innovation center at Startup Terrace (亞灣新創園) on Wednesday (Sept. 4). Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) attended the opening ceremony and promised to collaborate with SAP to help local industries achieve the goal of Net Zero.
The mayor highlighted that Kaohsiung's traditional industries could benefit from SAP's expertise in intelligent software management. He hopes to collaborate with SAP to help businesses align with global low-carbon sustainability standards and expedite carbon inventory processes.
The mayor also introduced SAP's net-zero carbon solutions, which leverage machine learning and AI to enhance management and create digital ESG solutions.
George Chen (陳志惟), SAP's global vice president, emphasized the center's role in accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies, stating that the center will meet the needs of businesses from sustainable supply chain management and data collection to reporting and disclosure.
The Economic Development Bureau (經濟發展局) explained that SAP's one-stop carbon management platform (扣件雲3.0), launched less than a year ago, has already assisted several companies in the fasteners industry with submitting thousands of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) declarations. This achievement demonstrates the platform's effectiveness in helping Taiwan's industries comply with the European Union (EU) standards.
