TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor's Minimum Wage Deliberation Committee (最低工資審議會) decided on Wednesday (Sept. 4) to increase the minimum wage by 4.08% for 2025. Monthly wages will rise to NT$28,590, and hourly wages will increase to NT$190. This decision follows the enactment of the Minimum Wage Act (最低工資法), which formalizes the review mechanism.
The Taiwan Confederation of Trade Unions (TCTU, 全國產業總工會) argued that the minimum wage increase should be at least 4.12%, citing a GDP growth rate of 3.9% and a CPI increase of 2.17%. In contrast, business groups, including the General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China (ROCCOC, 中華民國全國商業總會), suggested a 3% increase to align with public sector wage hikes, aiming to ease the rising costs for small and medium enterprises.
After a four-hour discussion, the committee finalized the 4.08% increase, raising the current monthly wage from NT$27,470 to NT$28,590 and the hourly wage from NT$183 to NT$190.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) had previously hinted at a wage increase, emphasizing a 3% raise for public sector employees and ensuring that workers would not be overlooked.
Labor Minister Ho Pei-shan (何佩珊) also supported the wage hike, stating that the direction is to provide better care for workers.
