TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taekwondo bronze medalist Xiao Xiang-wen (蕭翔文) returned to Taiwan from France on Wednesday (Sept. 4), contemplating future competitions, including the next Paralympics in Los Angeles.
Xiao defeated Spanish competitor Joel Martin Villalobos to earn a bronze medal in the men's K44 58kg category, marking Taiwan's first medal in this year's Paralympics.
Sports Administration (體育署) official Lu Chung-jen (呂忠仁) greeted Xiao, his coach Wu Yen-ni (吳燕妮), and their support team at the airport gate. Xiao dedicated his bronze medal to all his supporters, including family, friends, and those who watched the competition on TV.
Xiao encouraged everyone to participate in sports, likening the process to rehabilitation that can gradually awaken muscles and strength. Coach Wu hopes more athletes will take taekwondo, believing Xiao's success at the Paralympics will help promote the sport.
