NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) marked his 100th day in office on Tuesday (Aug. 27) by announcing the transformation of his family home in New Taipei’s Wanli District into a memorial museum dedicated to miners' lives. The museum will open in mid-October and will offer guided tours by appointment every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

During the 2024 presidential election, critics questioned the legality of Lai's family home, alleging it was an illegal structure. In response to media inquiries, Lai promised to place the property in trust and convert it for public use. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Spokesperson Tai Wei-shan (戴瑋姍) confirmed the ongoing progress, stating, “We had previously encountered some difficulties in the appraisal process, but we are working on it.”

Lai's family home opened to the media for the first time earlier that day. The living room exhibited photographs of miners' lives, historical accounts of local mines, and interviews with residents. The house retains the original living conditions of Lai’s mother and includes the desk and chair where Lai once sat to write articles and contemplate.

The second floor preserves the study room where Lai used to read, with his photo placed on the desk and a sleeping area where he used to rest.

Marking the 100th day since taking office, Lai posted on Facebook, emphasizing that he and his new government team continue to work diligently: “The first 100 days are just the start, and we look forward to working together for many more 100 days to come.”

However, Lai's administration continues to face ongoing challenges, including a divided legislature, frequent military threats from China, and internal party struggles. These issues will continue to test the government's wisdom in the coming days.
