TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) emphasized on Tuesday (Aug. 27) that the government will focus on not only high-tech industries but also small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He made this statement during the 2024 Taiwan Venture Capital Summit (2024台灣創投年會), highlighting the government's commitment to economic diversification.
Cho announced that the central government will allocate over NT$10 billion next year to revitalize SMEs and provide additional assistance and guidance. He noted that the award-winning companies at the summit come from various industries, showcasing Taiwan's diverse development options.
The government, in the first phase of the Economic Development Commission (經濟發展委員會), proposed plans for investment in Taiwan and the program to elevate talents. Cho stated that the Executive Yuan (行政院) will establish an inter-ministerial platform to attract domestic and foreign investments, ensuring long-term stable returns for investors and helping Taiwanese industries go global.
Regarding the talent elevation program, Cho mentioned that the government will bring in foreign talent for education and employment in Taiwan while also sending Taiwanese talent abroad to learn advanced technologies. These talents will serve local industries upon their return.
The government has proposed a concrete plan to create 20,000 startup jobs within five years and achieve an annual startup investment of NT$150 billion to support innovation. This initiative aims to make Taiwan a net exporter of innovative solutions within a decade.
Cho concluded by stating that only through the combined efforts of the government and private sectors can Taiwan maintain its leading position amidst geopolitical threats, global industrial chain reorganization, and the AI technology wave.
