TAITUNG (TVBS News) — Taitung County (台東縣) has integrated technology and innovation into tourism, significantly improving service quality. The 2024 Taiwan International Balloon Festival (2024台灣國際熱氣球嘉年華), which concluded on Aug. 19, served as one of the many examples showcasing 4K real-time tourist images.
In recent years, Taitung County has enhanced tourism services with smart dispatch, real-time tourist images, telemedicine, and 5G emergency services. These measures ensure the safety of tourists and residents.
On Aug. 15, Taitung County Magistrate April Yao (饒慶鈴) received the "2024 Smart City Excellence Award" (2024智慧城市卓越貢獻獎) for her contributions to smart tourism. She underscored the critical role of 5G technologies, noting, "It is being used to play games or download movies in cities, but we used it to save lives in Taitung.”
“Since Taitung has a vast territory, it's time-consuming for an ambulance to drive from an accident scene to the hospital, so we launched the 'Mobile Emergency Room' (行動急診室)," Yao stressed.
The county also launched the TTGO local transport service to overcome rural transportation difficulties, by offering ride-sharing and shuttle services to nearby towns. Through the combination of 5G technology and ambulances, Taitung has improved rescue accuracy and efficiency, enhancing tourists' sense of security.
Yao emphasized that the county government will continue introducing smart solutions across various sectors to transform Taitung into a smart, convenient, and attractive international tourist city.
Despite being impacted by the pandemic and devastating earthquakes, Taitung utilized smart city innovations and cross-functional integration to provide real-time travel information, boosting the city's tourism appeal.
