TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taiwan's table tennis stars, Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) and Chen Szu-yu (陳思羽), returned from the Olympics on Saturday (Aug. 10) and were greeted by warm enthusiasm from fans, friends and family.
The pleasant reception caused a 30-minute delay before the athletes could leave the airport.
Lin thanked fans for their continued support and said he plans to focus on healing from his injuries and preparing for future competitions. The athlete had previously injured himself in March last year and is slowly recovering. He added that post-Olympic training would include more rehabilitation.
Lin competed in mixed doubles, men's singles, and men's team events at the Olympics, but he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Chen, making her fourth Olympic appearance, participated in the women's team and women's doubles events.
Chen expressed mixed emotions, stating, "I have already given my all, although I have yet to reach my goal. However, I hope to participate in the next Olympics to achieve it."
In mixed doubles, Lin and Chen lost in the quarterfinals to China's Wang Chuqin (王楚欽) and Sun Yingsha (孫穎莎), who eventually won the gold medal.
