CHANGHUA (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) announced on Saturday (Aug. 10) the allocation of over NT$55 billion in next year's central government budget for water management. He underscored the government's dedication to tackling flooding issues through enhanced hydraulic infrastructure.

During his visit to Lukang Mazu Temple (鹿港天后宮), President Lai presented a congratulatory plaque and discussed the progress of ongoing water management projects. He highlighted the significant achievement of reducing flooded areas from 50,500 hectares during Typhoon Morakot to just over 700 hectares following the recent Typhoon Gaemi, showcasing the government's proactive efforts.

Lai also addressed the severe agricultural damage in Changhua County caused by Typhoon Gaemi, emphasizing that the government is offering low-interest loans to farmers. He reaffirmed that the nation belongs to all its people, and the government stands with them during hardships.

As the budget allocation progresses, further advancements in water management and disaster relief are expected, reflecting the administration's ongoing commitment to safeguarding communities against natural disasters.
