TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt participated in the 2024 Asia Blockchain Summit (ABS, 亞洲區塊鏈高峰會) in Taiwan on Thursday (Aug. 8), joining the nation's former Minister of Digital Affairs Audrey Tang (唐鳳), Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and economist Glen Weyl to discuss diverse digital content and creative collaboration.
Gordon-Levitt expressed his excitement about visiting Taiwan for the first time and focused on digital content and democracy during the summit. He shared his views on the U.S.'s low-engagement democratic society and noted that diverse digital content and democracy have similarities. He then asked Tang about Taiwan's democratic practices.
Tang emphasized that voting is a constitutional right and mentioned the online petition platform they set up to involve citizens in democracy. She cited an example where the public signed a petition to allow students to sleep an extra hour before school. Tang further highlighted that Taiwanese trust in the government and democracy has grown from 9% ten years ago to 60% this year.
Gordon-Levitt, known for films like Inception and 500 Days of Summer, brought a unique perspective to the discussion. His participation underscored the significance of integrating digital content with democratic practices.
