PARIS (TVBS News) — Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) on Friday (Aug. 2) triumphed over Uzbekistan's Turdibekova Sitora in the Women's 57kg preliminaries at the Paris Games, securing a 5-0 victory. This win propels Lin into the quarterfinals, significantly improving her previous Olympic performance.
Lin dominated all three rounds, ultimately winning 5-0. The Taiwanese boxer was formerly eliminated in round 16 of the Tokyo Olympics; reflecting on her progress, Lin stated that this was her first win in the Olympics, as the memories from Tokyo 2020 were not so good.
Lin will face Bulgaria's Staneva Svetlana Kamenova on Aug. 4. The two previously clashed at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships, where Lin emerged victorious with a 5-2 score.
Despite receiving support from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) amid gender controversy, Lin chose not to engage with over 50 foreign media members waiting in the interview area. Lin's coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang (曾自強), urged everyone to focus on the competition.
