PARIS (TVBS News) — Taiwan's archers faced tough competition in the men's individual archery event at the Olympic Games on Tuesday (July 30). None of the three athletes, Tang Chih-chun (湯智鈞), Lin Tzu-hsiang (林子翔), and Tai Yu-hsuan (戴宇軒), advanced to the next round.
Tang competed against reigning Olympic champion Mete Gazoz from Turkey, losing with a score of 2-6. Tang shared his disappointment, stating that he was too eager to achieve good results, so his movements and mentality were not natural enough. Unfortunately, he was unable to enter the finals by 1 point. Despite his regret, Tang said he gave his all.
Lin Tzu-hsiang, participating in his first Olympics, faced South Korea's Kim Woo-jin. Kim started strong with five consecutive 10-point arrows. Facing the powerful opponent, Lin lost the battle at 0:6. This debut experience highlighted the challenges and intensity of the Olympic-level competition.
In a nail-biting match, Tai went head-to-head with France's Thomas Chirault, taking the contest to a tiebreaker. Tai scored 8 points to Chirault's 10, resulting in his elimination. Tai remarked that although he lost, at least he made an effort to control it, got the points he should get, and performed well.
Although Taiwan's archers did not advance, their performance showcased their skills and potential. These athletes have demonstrated they can compete at the highest levels, offering hope for future opportunities to bring glory to Taiwan.
