TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's table tennis player Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) advanced to the men's singles round of 32 at the Olympic Games on Sunday (July 28) local time. Lin defeated Puerto Rico's Brian Afanador, ranked 75th globally, with a score of 4-1 in the round of 64.
Lin faced Afanador in his first match, taking the initial game 11-6. Although Afanador tied the match in the second game with a 14-12 win, Lin quickly regained control. He won the next two games 11-6 and dominated the fifth game 11-2 to secure his victory.
Ranked eighth in the world, Lin also competes in men's team and mixed doubles events at this year's Olympics.
In the mixed doubles quarterfinals, Lin and Chen Szu-yu (陳思羽) narrowly lost 2-4 to China's top-ranked duo, Wang Chuqin (王楚欽) and Sun Yingsha (孫穎莎), despite leading at one point.
Lin achieved fourth place in men's singles and won a bronze medal in mixed doubles with Cheng I-ching (鄭怡靜) at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo. Fans eagerly await his upcoming matches, hoping for more stellar performances.
