KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung firefighters successfully evacuated two trapped elderly residents, wading through the waters from the flood caused by Typhoon Gaemi on Thursday (July 25).
Typhoon Gaemi caused severe flooding in southern Taiwan, leaving parts of Kaohsiung underwater. The storm's periphery brought heavy rain, flooding streets to calf-level and creating hazardous conditions.
In Gushan District (鼓山區), two elderly residents found themselves trapped. As one was bedridden and unable to move, the Kaohsiung Fire Bureau quickly dispatched rescuers. Firefighters, wading through knee-deep water, carried the bedridden individual on their back while two others assisted, successfully evacuating both seniors.
Social media users praised the firefighters' heroic efforts, expressing gratitude for their dedication during natural disasters.
Zuoying District (左營區) faced similar challenges. Overwhelmed drainage systems in new buildings led to muddy water flooding basements. Residents worked together to install emergency flood barriers, highlighting community resilience.
As Typhoon Gaemi moves away, authorities urge residents to stay alert for potential aftereffects and continue to support one another in recovery efforts.
