TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued high-temperature alerts for 17 counties and cities on Wednesday (July 17), warning residents to brace for temperatures exceeding 38 degrees Celsius. The CWA urged residents to take precautions like using sun protection and staying hydrated due to high UV levels.
New Taipei City, Pingtung County, and Taitung County received red alerts, indicating a likelihood of extreme temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days. Taipei City, Chiayi County, and Tainan received orange alerts, signifying potential extreme heat with temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius.
Taoyuan City, Taichung Cuty, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Kaohsiung City, and Yilan County also received orange alerts, with a likelihood of 36-degree temperatures for three consecutive days. Hualien County, Penghu County, and Kinmen County received yellow alerts, expecting temperatures above 36 degrees.
The CWA forecasts that starting Sunday, increased cloud cover from the south will moderate the heat. However, temperatures will still range between 32 and 35 degrees, with some areas possibly exceeding 36 degrees.
