TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) on Friday (July 12) urged legislators to help promote local agricultural products to improve the lives of farmers and fishermen.
Han made these remarks during a press conference organized by the Huwei Township Farmers' Association of Yunlin County (雲林縣虎尾鎮農會) at the Legislative Yuan earlier that day.
Han stated that Yunlin County's products are diverse. He said he believes it has substantial development potential, and described it as a place with kind people, and abundant resources.
Han further remarked that many people are unfamiliar with Yunlin County's rich cultural heritage, scenery, and cuisine, adding that he sees significant potential for economic and tourism development in the county.
Han mentioned Nantou County (南投縣) recently promoted its agricultural products at the Legislative Yuan. He believes Taiwan's agricultural and fishery products deserve proper market recognition. He cited the famous garlic from Cihtong (莿桐) and peanuts from Beigang (北港) as examples worth promoting.
Han concluded by calling on legislators to fulfill their responsibility to help promote local specialties. He emphasized the importance of supporting products from Huwei Township and other areas, urging greater attention to Taiwan's agricultural and fishery products to improve the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen.
Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) legislators Ting Hsueh-chung (丁學忠), Hsu Yu-Chen (許宇甄), Chang Chia-chun (張嘉郡), Chen Ching-hui (陳菁徽), Huwei Township Mayor Lin Chia-hung (林嘉弘), Town Representative Council Chairman Chen Ming-sheng (陳明聖), and Farmers' Association Chairman Chou Shui-po (周水波) attended the event to show their support.
