TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) announced Thursday (July 11) in a routine press briefing that President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) first overseas trip remains under planning, with the destination and timing yet to be determined.
Following the usual protocol, the ministry will send the related plans to the Presidential Office (總統府) for reference. Upon finalizing the details, the Presidential Office will publicly disclose the information.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) mentioned in a media briefing the previous day that while President Lai's trip is indeed in the works, it has not been finalized.
Lin noted that presidential visits sometimes involve transits through the United States. Given that it is an election year in the U.S., the ministry is evaluating how to achieve the trip's objectives without causing unnecessary reactions.
The ministry's careful planning underscores the complexities of international diplomacy, especially during significant political periods. As the planning progresses, the Presidential Office is expected to provide further updates.
