CHIAYI (TVBS News) — Chiayi City (嘉義市) launched its first mobile library, "Reading Wave" (閱讀浪), on Monday (July 8). Chiayi Mayor Huang Min-hui (黃敏惠) emphasized the city government's commitment to addressing the reading needs of all age groups and fostering a culture of reading within the community. The initiative aims to provide convenient borrowing services and unique reading experiences.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Chiayi City Government (嘉義市政府文化局) hosted a press conference to kick off the "Reading Wave" on Monday. The mobile library will travel through neighborhoods, featuring a comfortable outdoor reading area where residents can enjoy Chiayi City's distinct reading ambiance.

Huang Min-hui noted that starting in July, the mobile library will bring books and reading activities to every community. The book selection will cater to each neighborhood's demographic structure, and residents can borrow books on-site with a library card. The "Reading Wave" can hold 500 books and function as a mobile library to enhance the connection between personal experiences and reading, making it more diverse and enjoyable.

The mobile library will offer four regular activities during its tour, including a reading points reward program, a painting experience, and a book exchange event. Additionally, the city has planned promotional activities such as picture book theaters, workshops, and lectures.
