TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former Central Weather Bureau Director Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典) highlighted on Tuesday (July 2) that sea temperatures around Taiwan are now 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above the climatic norm.
This anomaly has disrupted normal sea breeze patterns and, combined with a robust Pacific high-pressure system, is causing unusually intense heat across the region.
According to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB), Shezi in Taipei's Shilin District and Dounan Township in Yunlin County recorded highs of 37 degrees Celsius, the warmest of the day.
Other regions also reported extreme temperatures, including Taichung's Dajia District at 36.8 degrees, Changhua's Zhutang Township at 36.7 degrees, Taoyuan's Luzhu District at 36.4 degrees, and Tainan's Houbi District at 36.1 degrees.
The CWB continues to forecast high temperatures ranging from 32 to 36 degrees nationwide, with potential peaks at 37 degrees in central and southern areas.
The bureau advises residents to adopt sun safety practices and stay hydrated to mitigate the risk of heat-related illnesses. Also, afternoon showers in the north and mountainous regions are significantly likely, and they may extend into the evening.
